Q: I see all these parts come with your timing belt kits, but what are they? What are they for? Do I really need all of them?
A: Yes! Let us explain below what each component is for. Remember, not all applications will have all of these components. Click above on the car manufacture to see what each kit comes with.
Timing Belt
Engines with overhead camshafts have timing belts that have a limited life span. Car makers use these belts instead of more durable chains because chains are noisier and cost more to manufacture. Your vehicle owner's manual will recommend at what mileage the timing belt must be replaced. These intervals range from every 60,000 miles to every 105,000 miles. Because the timing belt is one of the single most important factors in an engine, we recommend being on the safe side and replacing the belt at 60,000 miles.
Timing belts fail without warning and on some vehicles, are almost as hard to check as they are to change. In most cases, your only protection is to change the belt at the recommended intervals. Timing belt replacement is not a cheap job but you have found the right place to get the parts at wholesale!
Water Pump
We recommend that you replace the water pump during a timing belt job even if there is nothing wrong with it. This is because 90% of the labor to change the water pump has already been done with the timing belt job and we consider it good insurance to replace the pump at this time.
Balance Shaft Belt
We recommend that all cars have their timing and balance shaft belts changed every 60,000 miles. Many engine-destroying belt failures are really the fault of the balance shaft belt, rather than the main timing belt. A balance shaft's main focus is as it rotates, it vibrates in a way that reduces or cancels some of the vibration produced by an engine. Not essential to an engine's operation, balance shafts are nonetheless becoming increasingly common as a means of engine refinement.
Timing Belt Tensioner
Timing belt tensioners are designed to maintain the timing belts tension. If these fail, the timing belt will release tension and slip, causing catastrophic engine damage.
