AEM TRU-TIME Adjustable Cam Gears

BR> AEM TRU-TIME Adjustable Cam Gears increase horsepower and torque without having to change the camshaft(s) and are must-have items for engines that are milled, forced induction, high compression and/or utilizing aftermarket competition cams. Our gears enable users to match cam timing with their vehicle's tuning state by advancing or retarding the cam profile in one-degree increments via true laser-etched markings. Precision-cut gear teeth ensure no premature wearing of the belt surface and AEM's anodizing on the gear teeth is lab-test proven as the hardest anodizing process on the market.
BR> AEM TRU-TIME Adjustable Cam Gears are available in a multi-spoke, five-bolt design for most vehicles and our classic full-faced, three-bolt design for select applications. Five-bolt cam gears have an “8” in the suffix (23-8XX), and three-bolt cam gears have a “6” in the suffix (23-6XX).

Q:  Does AEM have recommended settings for my cam gears?
A:  We no longer make cam gear setting recommendations because of the myriad of different engine modification combinations that can affect the tuning of the cam gears. For best results, we recommend that you tune your cam gears using a dynamometer or at the track using a datalogging device so you can document quantifiable gains and eliminate inconsistencies. With proper tuning, our cam gears will help you extract the most useable power from your engine combination.

Q:  Will TRU-TIME Cam Gears void my vehicle warranty?
A:  No. When our cam gears are properly installed and tuned they will perform flawlessly. However, If they are NOT installed or tuned properly they can cause engine damage and a warranty claim may be denied. Please reference the instructions for proper installation and tuning of our cam gears. If you are not comfortable with the installation, please contact us at (310) 484-2322, extension 203 and we will help you find an installation shop in your area.

If a service technician denies your warranty claim ONLY because the car is modified with an AEM TRU-TIME Cam Gear and the vehicle system failure was not a direct result of the installation and use of an AEM TRU-TIME Cam Gear, please refer him to the Magnusson Moss Warranty act. You can download the Magnusson Moss Warranty act from SEMA’s website at: http://www.enjoythedrive.com/san.

Q:  What are the torque specifications for the cam gear bolts?
A:  The torque specifications for our cam gears is 15 lbs/ft.

Q:  Do the cam gear bolts slip?
A:  NO. We have run three- and five-bolt cam gears on engines exceeding 1,500 HP that have never slipped, even after repeated adjustments. Further, our cam gears are on thousands of vehicles that have cumulatively logged several hundred thousand miles without any signs of slippage. When properly torqued to the specified 15 lbs/ft the gears will not slip.

Q:  Are TRU-TIME Cam Gears emissions legal?
A:  No. Due to the adjustability of the gears, the TRU-TIME Cam Gears cannot be granted an E.O. for 50- state legality and are intended for use on off road vehicles only.

Q:  Do I have to cut my Cam Gear Cover to use TRU-TIME Cam Gears?
A:  No, it is not necessary to cut the cam gear cover to use our cam gears. However, it is convenient to cut the cover if you perform extensive cam timing adjustments because you will not have to remove the cover to access the cam gear adjustment screws. Many of our show enthusiasts cut the cam gear cover for its visual impact, too.

Q:  Will TRU-TIME Cam Gears increase power?
A:  Yes, with proper tuning our cam gears will increase power even with the factor camshafts. For more information on how cam gears work, please visit Sport Compact Car’s website, http://sportcompactcarweb.com/insidetechnology/0208scc_insidetechnology01a/. For best results, we recommend that you tune your cam gears using a dynamometer or at the track using a datalogging device so you can document quantifiable gains and eliminate inconsistencies.

Q:  What is the warranty on my TRU-TIME Cam Gears?
A:  Advanced Engine Management Inc. warrants to the consumer that all AEM High Performance products will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of twelve (12) months from date of the original purchase. Products that fail within this 12 month warranty period will be repaired or replaced at AEM’s option, when determined by AEM that the product failed due to defects in material or workmanship. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the AEM part. In no event shall this warranty exceed the original purchase price of the AEM part nor shall AEM be responsible for special, incidental or consequential damages or cost incurred due to the failure of this product. Warranty claims to AEM must be transportation prepaid and accompanied with dated proof of purchase. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser of product and is non-transferable. All implied warranties shall be limited in duration to the said 12 month warranty period. Q:  What does a cam gear do? Cam Gears explained on Sportcompactcarweb.com
A:  This article by Sport Compact Car magazine clears up many of the myths surrounding cam gears and cam timing:

    http://sportcompactcarweb.com/insidetechnology/0208scc_insidetechnology01a/

Q:  Do I have to use a special “T” belt with TRU-TIME Cam Gears?
A:  No. AEM guarantees that the tooth profile on the TRU-TIME cam gears will match the O.E.M. belt profile. You do not need to buy a special belt. We do recommend that you service your timing belt according to the factory specifications, and that you replace your factory timing belt with a new one if you see damage or wear during installation, tuning or maintenance of your cam gears.

Q:  Do cam gears wear out?
A:  AEM TRU-TIME Cam Gears have a hard anodized outer gear section that delivers exceptional wear resistance, and laser-etched timing marks that will never wear off. Our hard anodizing on the leading edge of the gear is lab-test proven as the toughest on the market. Under normal conditions, our cam gears will not wear out. If you use our cam gears in sandy regions or climates with a very high concentration of dirt (typically encountered in off road racing) excessive wear can occur due to the abrasion of the sand. This situation would apply to ANY cam gear, regardless of the manufacturer.

Q:  If I keep my settings at zero and keep the cam cover on them, are TRU-TIME cam gears emissions legal?
A:  No. Although our gears do not affect emissions when set at zero, they are still adjustable and cannot be granted an E.O. for 50-state legality. They are intended for use on off road vehicles only.

If you're running aftermarket cams and you want to pull out some extra horsepower, you'll need a set of cam gears. Additonaly, if you're running 272 cams and you don't like the "lumpy" idle, these cams gears can be tuned to not only add power, but to smooth out your idle. AEM cam gears are made of a 6 bolt design for added durability and give your engine bay an aggressive look.

Excellent product. Helped me gain some low to mid range power out of a motor than has little aftermarket support. Would recommend this product not just for prelude owners, but everyone, especially if you like to tinker. :D
