Replacement Clutch Master Cylinder
|
|
The Clutch Master Cylinder is located on the firewall inside the engine bay, and usually next to the brake master cylinder as the brake and clutch pedals are usually very close to one another. The Clutch Master Cylinder is responsible for transferring the clutch pedal pressure hydraulically to the slave cylinder to release the clutch. You can tell when your clutch master cylinder is dying or needs repair when you depress your clutch pedal and it slowly sinks to the floor and does not return. Since the entire system is a hydraulic one, the master cylinder also has a reservoir that holds the fluid used in the clutch hydraulic system. If you decide to change the clutch master cylinder it is a good idea to also get a clutch slave cylinder at the same time, as both units typically fail around the same time. When replacing your master or slave cylinder, its always a good idea to flush your entire system to prevent water buildup or air pockets from being present when you are driving. Also always keep an eye on the fluid in your reservoir, dirty fluid may mean that the internal seals are allowing dirt and contaminants into your master cylinder. Commonly Asked Clutch Master Cylinder questions about our OEMSPEC Program
Q. How do I know my Clutch master cylinder is not working or broken?
A. Sure tell signs that your clutch master cylinder is not working correctly is when you press the clutch pedal, it does not return and simply sinks to the floor without disengaging the clutch. Also, leaks from either the rod exiting the clutch master cylinder or the actual clutch master cylinder itself are sure signs that your clutch master cylinder needs replacing
Q. Do I really need another clutch master cylinder? Or can I use a repair kit?
A. Although many kits do exist that will replace the internals in your clutch master cylinder, these kits don’t always solve the issue. We recommend that you simply replace the clutch master cylinder and not worry about the cylinder failing again.
